A witch, either from birth, life experience and/or by training, has sharpened experiences in life. Like an antenna, she is able to recieve and process more information from what is available in the world around her. Because of her awareness, with experience she is able to then poke and prod the patterns she sees around her, creating changes connected with the will of nature, beings she works with, or wills of her own. A witch can be of any or no religion, as long as she doesn't become "a house divided against itself". Being such can be her downfall, if she doesn't recreate harmony within.

What is below (nature) is a mirror of what is above (the heavens), and our images of the heavens inevidibly mirrors patterns from what we see here in the below. Humans were given the things of nature to use in order to connect with the heavens, and the heavens can reach down and touch nature. Each being on earth is a microcosm to the macrocosm; and what happens below affects above and visa versa. In looking at the smallest flower, its pattern and shape, we can witness some of the beauty and structure of the universe at large.

What's interesting is that the layers of above and below are really in the same place, just different levels of reality that can be accessed through happy accident or training in those succeptible to be able to do so. There are many layers gradiating from solid form to complete formlessness. With various beings on these layers, which may choose to test you to see if you are worthy of continuing on, strength is definitely needed to pursue this type of learning. You need strength in your own ideals, a heart able to love, and no disharmony between what you think you want to learn and what your hidden self truely desires. If you have disharmony in your self, all you will see is the fear you hold manifested in illusions around you that you may try to fight. Do not fight, but be strong to realize that they are just illusions and as such not really there.

What's also interesting is how the tool of the candle bridges the gap between above and below. The flame is something so subtle that it can stradle both above and below, while the base of it (as the wax) is physical disolving into liquid, and then shrinking away so as to not see it. Lit candles are in the inbetween. This is why they are useful in drawing those down from the heavens who wish to come and alerting the attention of the spirits of nature as well. They are used around the world in any religion you can think of. If not a candle, then a fire of some sort. A lit candle is the universal calling card. All you need after that is the phone number, and this you get in your training from others who came before you in your initiation, a practice beginning either in the flesh or spirit depending on the tradition/religious practice you uphold.

Mystics and ceremonial magicians tend to more concerned about looking farther above. Those looking above wish to make changes in themselves that help enable them to do so. They do this through forms of prayer, ceremony and meditation, rather than tools. If they do use a tools, then the only tools they use are those necessary to put them into in the proper state of mind. These might be bells, swords, candles or other items such as those used for sensory deprivation.

Witches and elemental magicians tend to be more concerned with looking at what's directly connected the world around them, although they may or may not take an active role in it. Their work involves seeing the patterns of energy here in nature and day to day life and acting on it when necessary. These acts involve objects that are worked with to share their inherent energies upon an issue or with touches that can be felt to reverberate the changes at hand. This ability to manipulate patterns must be tempered by some sense of harmony with those around the witch, otherwise she will find they will want to burn her metaphorically or physically. Althernately, if she is not strong enough, she fall prey to her own fears and disinegrate in mind and body. She will lose her abilities in recieving and transmitting magic, because she is so overwhelmed by the illusions that she needs to be able to see through in order to see what is real. Some witches don't believe this at first and go too far in testing the waters. Some just don't care and say "damn the concequences". This is where the old sterotypes of evil witches comes from. Also, the idea of someone meddling with energetic patterns is difficult for some people to accept, even if her work is beneficial to those around her.

The mystic or ceremonial magician works to elevate upward into the light, experiencing the bliss of being near God while alive. Witches will leave their bodies as well in waking or in dream, but unless otherwise drawn, will tend to stay on the lower plane, the one directly connected with the physical. This layer contains memories of place and ghost forms with which she can interact. Witches tend to work on this level closest to the physical, so that they can witness and/or affect the forms of day to day life when needed. That said, the most productive witch training involves mystical techniques in order to move her upward enough towards God to be able to gain the perspective needed in order to diminish problems of fear on the levels she works on and in, closest to the physical.

Witches and elemental magicians call what's above down to themselves, working from the below, even if what's above is simply the layer of elemental energies inherent in the earth around the one calling. She can call by word, thought, or simply feeling. In order to form the bonds between the witch and the various energies/ghosts/powers/beings/deities she works with, she must have either stumbed upon this connection, or been passed/introduced to it by someone else who works with the same.

Think of this like making new friends. Most of the time you are introduced by someone else, but every now and again you meet someone who you connect with on your own. Sometimes though, you may be introduced to someone you don't really like, but they end up being important in your life for some reason. Others you stay away from, because you just can't stand them. Thinking of how you navigate these forms of relationship in the physical directly cooresponds to how you would create bonds of friendship with the beings around you.

Once you have those loyalties, you may call on them when needed, although they expect you to take part in helping them as well by various means. It could be something as simple as the nudge to give some money you found on the ground to a homeless person you see a few minutes later in that day, or intuition to be at a certain place at a certain time where you can directly influence the outcome of an event for a perfect stranger's betterment or discomfort (this is why you need choose your "friends" wisely). Some of these beings/powers have a will of their own; some only manifest your will, which may or may not be apparent to you unless you've done some soul searching. The witch is a hand of nature and/or the beings she works with, who acts on the physical on their behaf to do the subtle things that need a more physical presence. In this way, the witch or elemental magician begins to tread in the path of priesthood, although the forms taken for this depend on the outer patterns of practice and religion they have incorporated into themselves. Naturally, benefits come to her from these acts. Just know you always have say.

Once SHE is within, you see,
The power is within You as well.
Will She stay within?
That is what you work to allow,
Her staying.
Then, they (mages) covet what you have as well.
Look into the mirror again,
You'll see.

Because they want you to become their gateway,
Now you hold the pillars.
